Malene Bach’s works are permeated by her knowledge of art history, and draw constant inspiration from traditional composition and painting techniques. Her experiments with form explore a wide range of materials, techniques and media, and can be seen as an artistic greenhouse where ideas, cuttings and the seeds of other works can be cultivated and grow. At first glance the artist’s systematic focus on the interplay of colour, light and spatiality might seem formalist, but her works always go beyond – and transcend – pure form.
